Music is an amazing expression that highlights and illuminates the feelings and expressions of our human experience. Through our  triumph and tragedy, history and societal upheaval. Sing and playing songs Carries us through a Time Machine of life. It touches our sorrows and joys and reminds us of who we are and where we might be going if we can get there. It’s like a deep reminder at times and other times it helps us forget, if even for some moments of relief. And between the reminders and the joy we can sense who we are.

For myself, the more I play and sing these songs the more I feel I am getting closer to the soul of what the song meant. Each song has its own soul, perspective and meaning. Whether playful fun or storytelling, Or expressing a feeling or sentiment. It’s like sharing in a moment, in another time, that sometimes touches the time we are in now.

I also find that music is a form of meditation. It’s a great way to move my focus from the ‘all’ of the world, to the view or sense of a song.

For musicians that want to get together and play these songs. I’ve worked out chords and some new arrangements on the songs in this list. I can sing and play the songs with an asterisk (mostly ;). If it has a hyphen, then I may be still working on it. Either they are newly added, or I have not done the workup yet.

Classic Rock Section

.

.

.

Classic rock section begins at the crossover of 50’s rock into the rebel rock of the 60’s where music began to move from simply having fun into social messaging and frustration and awareness. From there the free and easy attitude of the 70’s changed the mood of the music again.. Social change and changing attitudes are reflected thought the decades to come as expressed in the music.

COUNTRY WESTERN SECTION

.

.

.

Mostly 1950’s and forward but some older tunes. Country Western reflects the attitudes of the old west and the lifestyle of of the social culture of those that lived and worked in rural America. Some of it is just fun and some is reflective, while other songs seem to demonstrate the celebration of the western and folk lifestyles. Sentimental songs are part of the genre and the expressive nature of some songs is truly endearing. Also includes crossover artists country folk and country rock/blues.

Jazz/Blues/Soft Rock & Soul Section

.

.

.

This section mixes jazz and blues with soft rock and soul. I find that both soft rock and soul, while using different chords, melodically match the spirit of Jazz and Blues. Thus, this section is a collection of those soulful and heartfelt blues and jazz songs.
All these genres focus on harnessing a soulful feeling.

Rock Section

The Rock playlist includes genre Rock from 60’s forward. Rock was fun energy expressed and shared by generations. Post the music of the social awareness era of the 60’s/70’s rock music continued to evovle as it found new ways of expression. The the angst of our parents at that time of course. We liked to play it loud and let the music imbue os with its energy. Well, that’s my interpretation.
Also includes hard rock, melodic rock and metal.

Christmas section focuses on traditional and popular. Some of these songs I found tricky to play but regardless of how people feel about Christmas, this seasonal music still enables me to recall the whimsical feelings of sentiment and celebration of another year passing and the beginning of the new year to come.
